Men's Tennis Defeats No. 15 Washington

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team played hard and were able to gain a victory over No. 15 Washington, 4-3. The Red Raiders remain undefeated for the spring season, 9-0.
Tech won two out of the three doubles mathches. Esat Tanik and Radek Nijaki defeated Daniel Chu and Alex Vlaski, 9-8. In the number two position, Bojan Szumanski and Michael Innerebner fell to Andy Kuharszky and Alex Slovic, 9-7. Jakob Paulsen and Adrian Prpic teamed up for a big win against Mike Ricks and Christoph Palmanshofer, 8-2.
In singles action, the Red Raiders won three of the matches over the Huskies. In the number one position, Radek Nijaki fell to Alex Vlaski, 6-4, 6-2. Bojan Szumanksi came out on top in the number two position defeating Alex Slovic, 6-4, 6-4. Jakob Paulsen battled in the number three position losing to Christoph Palmanshofer, 6-1, 6-7, 6-1. In the number four position, Esat Tanik defeated Daniel Chu, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4. Michael Innerebner lost in the number five position to Peter Scharler, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. Adrian Prpic defeated Andy Kuharszy, 6-4, 6-7, 7-6 in the number six position.
"This was an unbelievable match," said head coach Tim Siegel. "Everyone contributed to the win. We were down 3-2 in matches and Prpic and Tanik were both down but battled back to a victory. To do this in our first match of the weekend, against a ranked team and in a hostile enviroment is amazing."
The Red Raiders are going to face No. 43 Oregon at 5 p.m. today in Washington.
