
Men's Tennis Captures The Championship

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 35 Texas Tech men's tennis team defeated No. 52 Texas A&M Corpus Christi, 4-2, in the finals of the 37th Annual HEB Collegiate Team Championships. Tech defeated Southeastern Louisiana, 4-1 and Alabama Birmingham, 4-0 on Friday. In the semifinals on Saturday, Tech defeated No. 30 South Alabama, 4-2. The Red Raiders remain undefeated with a 14-0 record for the spring season.
The Red Raiders came out on top in singles action. In the number one position, Radek Nijaki defeated Jeremy Blandin, 6-1, 7-5 and Bojan Szumanski beat Andrey Kumantsov, 7-6 (4), 7-5, 12-10 at number two. Jakob Paulsen fell to Raul Moranto, 3-6, 6-1 (1-0) in the third slot. At number four, Goncalo Figueiredo defeated Esat Tanik, 7-5, 7-6 (5). In the clinch match, at position five, Michael Innerebner came out on top against Maxime Godin, 6-7, 7-5, 7-6 (6). In the last slot, Adrian Prpic beat Oscar Roman, 6-4, 6-2.
"As a coach you want to win a couple of close matches in the spring season," said head coach Tim Siegel. "We have won four close matches in the last week. Texas A&M Corpus Christi is a great team and Michael Innerebner came for the third time to win the clinching match 7-6. Innerebner has just been phenomenal. Adrian Prpic and Bojan Szumanksi both remain undefeated. We are looking forward to getting some rest."
The Red Raiders will hit road again to March 17-21. Tech will travel to Florida to face Purdue, Fresno State and Clemson.
