Men's Tennis Upsets No. 48 Oregon

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 56 Texas Tech men's tennis team upset another ranked team. The Red Raiders beat No. 15 Washington, 4-3 on Friday and No. 48 Oregon, 4-3 on Saturday. Tech had a huge comback in the two matches after being down 3-2 in both of them. They remain undefeated for the spring season at 10-0.
In the doubles number one spot Esat Tanik and Radek Nijaki defeated Arron Spencer and Chad Wilson, 9-8. In the number two position, Jakob Paulsen and Adrian Prpic fell to Vladimir Pino and Thomas Bieri, 8-6. Sven Swinnen and Chris Liao teamed up to defeat Michael Innerebner and Bojan Szumanski, 9-8 in the the number three slot.
In singles action, the Red Raiders dominated winning four of the six matches. In the number one position, Radek Nijaki fell to Sven Swinnen, 7-5, 6-4. Bojan Szumanksi came out on top in the number two slot defeating Thomas Bieri, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. In the singles number three spot, Jakob Paulsen lost to Arron Spencer, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Michael Innerebner defeated Chad Wilson, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 at number four. Adrian Prpic won in the number five position beating Vladimir Pino, 6-4, 6-4. In the last spot, Eric Pickard fell to Dimitrio Martinez, 6-1, 6-4.
"This was another incredible comeback against a very good Oregon team," said head coach Tim Siegel. "Today we were down 3-2 in matches again and two new guys came through for the team. I can't remember a more intense two days. I am most proud of the way the guys fought and the way they cheered for eachother."
The Red Raiders wrapped up play in Seattle, Wash. but will head to Corpus Christi, Texas on Fri., March 4, to compete in the HEB Invitational.
