Tech hosts Arizona State, Arizona this week

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 66 Texas Tech Red Raiders have two big home matches on deck as they host the No. 29 Arizona State Sun Devils on Friday at 5 p.m. and the No. 8 Arizona Wildcats on Sunday at 12 p.m. at the McLeod Tennis Center.
Texas Tech (12-8, 2-3 Big 12) is coming off a split road-weekend at BYU and Utah. In Tech's first road win this year at BYU, the Red Raiders won a tough doubles point as the duos of Niksa Arsic and Thiago Guglieri as well as Felipe Pagnacco and Thomas Van Den Dooren earned 7-5 victories to clinch the point. In singles, Arsic, Guglieri and Ludovico Vaccari all won their matches to claim the 4-2 win over the Cougars.
Leading the Red Raiders in dual singles wins is Guglieri with a 13-2 record, the majority of those wins (7) coming at line five. Just behind him is both Arsic and Pagnacco with 12 and 10 wins, respectively. In dual doubles, Arsic and Guglieri lead the team with a 10-5 record, all at court one. Sebastian Abboud and Tyler Stewart are right behind with a 6-1 record at court two.
Scouting the Opponents
The No. 29 Sun Devils are 14-8 on the season and 1-3 in Big 12 play so far. They have key wins over No. 8 San Diego, No. 16 Clemson and No. 54 Memphis. Their recent losses were against No. 9 Arizona, No. 8 Baylor and No. 2 TCU. The Sun Devils are led in singles wins by both Niels Villard and Jelani Sarr with 17 wins, followed by Shu Matsuoka with 16 wins. They have one player ranked in singles as Bor Artnak checks in at No. 69 nationally. In doubles, Ofek Shimanov leads the way with 13 wins this season.
No. 8 Arizona are 17-3 on the year and an undefeated 5-0 in Big 12 play. Their three losses were against No. 10 San Diego, LSU and No. 21 Oklahoma. On a 12-match winning streak, the Wildcats picked up key wins over Arizona State (twice), No. 2 TCU, No. 8 Baylor, No. 28 Columbia and No. 21 Florida State (twice). There are four players who are in the ITA singles rankings: Jay Friend (4), Filip Gustafsson (59), Sasha Rozin (82) and Zoran Ludoski (111). Friend leads the team in dual singles wins with a 13-2 record, all at court one. Behind him are both Ludoski and Glib Sekachov with 11 wins each. In dual doubles, Sekachov and Gustafsson rank 30th nationally and lead Arizona with a 14-2 record, all coming at court one. Â
