LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 23 Texas Tech men's tennis team defeated No. 44 Fresno, 5-1, in Malibu, Ca. The matches were not finished due to rain.
The Red Raiders swept Fresno in singles play today. At number one, Radek Nijaki defeated Jacob Cech, 6-4, 6-4. Bojan Szumanksi beat Segiu Modoc in slot two, 6-2, 6-1. In number four, Esat Tanik came out on top against Andy Sinn, 7-5, 6-2. Michael Innerebner won at number five, defeating Nicholas Mascheroni, 6-4, 6-4. In the number six spot, Adrian Prpic defeated Sam Tadevosian, 6-3, 6-3.
Tech lost two of their doubles matches at number one and number three. The second match was not played due to bad weather. At number one, Segiu Modoc and Jacob Cech defeated Radek Nijaki and Esat Tanik, 8-6. Jakob Paulsen and Adrian Prpic fell to Andy Sinn and Gibbs, 8-6.
"We had a difficult time in doubles and I became a little worried, but we showed our best matches ever in singles play," said head coach Tim Siegel. "We beat a good team today and to win on their home court made it one of the most significant wins of the spring season."
The Red Raiders will be back in action again tomorrow to face Clemson at 3 p.m. central in Malibu, Ca.
