Dallas, Texas - Jonathan Johnson, a four-year veteran of the track and field squad, was named Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week for his performances at the 78th Texas Relays.
Johnson, a product of Abilene, Texas, anchored the champion sprint medley relay team at the Texas Relays while clocking a new Tech record (3:13.06). The senior has anchored the relay for the last four years as Tech's sprint medley relay is the only individual or relay to ever "four-peat" at the Texas Relays. Johnson also anchored the 4x400M relay that clocked a regional qualifying time of 3:05.21. Nationally, Johnson is currently top-ranked in the 800M, fifth-ranked in the 400M and third-ranked in the 4x400M relay.
This is Johnson's third award handed out by the conference. Johnson is an eight-time All-American, has received 14 all-conference honors and has won three consecutive Big 12 titles in the 800M. Johnson is also Tech's first male national champion and male Olympian.
Johnson will be competing at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. this weekend.
