Track Finds 25 Qualifying Marks At UTEP Invitational

El Paso, Texas - Texas Tech track and field competed at the UTEP Invitational in El Paso, Texas today. The Red Raiders registered 20 first-place finishes, 25 qualifying marks and one school record.
In the field events, Harrison Benjamin tallied a first-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 57'-3", a regional qualifying mark. Jamie Robinson also notched a first-place finish in the javelin throw with his mark of 200'-11". Defending NJCAA national triple jump champion Corey Dowden posted a regional qualifying mark in the triple jump (50'-0) and the long jump (24'-1"). Chad Pharis jumped a mark of 7'-0.5", good for a second-place finish and a regional qualifying mark. In the pole vault, Seth Harris and Chris Ashcraft both tallied regional qualifying marks with their height of 16'-6.75".
For the women, Kelley Schulz finish second in the pole vault with her regional qualifying mark of 13'-5.25", a new school record. Schulz replaced her previous school record of 13'-3.5". Tori Polk earned a silver finish in the long with her regional qualifying mark of 20'-1.5". Geralda Dukuly marked a leap of 41'-5" in the triple jump which qualified her for the regional meet. High jumpers Lacy Wilson and Misty Coley finished first and second, respectively with their qualifying marks of 5'-10" and 5'-8.75".
On the track, Tyree Gailes posted regional qualifying marks in both the 100M (10.33) and 200M (20.74) dashes. Both times were good for first-place finishes. The Red Raider men took first and second places with regional qualifying marks in the 400M with performances by Andrae Williams (1st, 46.25) and Jonathan Johnson (2nd, 46.32). Tech claimed the first- through fourth-place finishes in the 400M hurdles with defending Big 12 Champion Bryan Scott leading the way with his regional qualifying mark of 51.96. Kevin Chelimo clocked a 3:46.15 in the 1500M, good for his first regional qualifying mark as a Red Raider. Marlon Odom (14.02) and Shawon Harris (14.27) clocked their second set of regional qualifying times of the season.
For the women, Melissa Branch earned a gold finish in the 100M dash with her regional qualifying time of 11.71. Shereefa Lloyd clocked a 23.61 in the 200M, good for a first-place finish and a regional qualifying time. Lloyd went on to post a qualifying time in the 400M as she finished first in the event as well. Licretia Sibley was right behind Lloyd in the 400M as she clocked a regional qualifying time of 54.25. Althea Chambers clocked a personal-best 2:09.48 in the 800M, also a regional qualifying mark.
