
Day One of Drake Relays, Mean Green Twilight Concludes

DES MOINES, Iowa - Texas Tech track and field completed competition in the Mean Green Twilight at North Texas and day one of the Drake and Penn Relays today.
At North Texas, the men's pole vaulting crew dominated once again, taking first, third and sixth place with three regional qualifying marks. Bobby Most led the way with a height of 17'-6.5". Jared Thornhill finished third with a clearance of 16'-6.75"and Seth Harris cleared a height of 16'-6.75", good for a sixth-place finish.
In the jumps, Bobby Evers recorded regional qualifying marks in the long and the triple jumps with distances of 24'-2.25" and 50'-5.5", respectively. Corey Dowden posted a regional qualifying mark in the triple jump with a leap of 51'-5.25", good for a first-place finish.
In Des Moines, at the Drake Relays, the Tech women clocked three regional qualifying times in the 5000M. Violet Chemakwila led the way with a second-place finish and a time of 16:32.78. Irene Kimaiyo finished in sixth place with a run of 16:44.24 and Bridget Tidwell was right behind her in seventh place with a clocking of 16:46.99.
The Red Raiders will continue competition at the Penn and Drake Relays on Friday beginning at 9 a.m.
