Yosten Wins 1500M at Drake Relays

Philadelphia, Penn. - Texas Tech track and field wrapped up competition at the Drake and the Penn Relays this afternoon. The Red Raiders conclude the day with nine regional marks.
In Des Moines, Brionne Yosten won the title in the 1500M with a time of 4:28.92. In the men's 1500M, Kyle Atwood clocked a time of 3:55.06, good for an 11th-place finish.
Tech took the second and third spots in the men's 3000M steeplechase. Haron Lagat led for most the race during cold and windy conditions and clocked a time of 9:04.36, finishing in second place. Benson Cheserek was right behind him in third place with his time of 9:07.38.
Also at Drake, Marlon Odom ran to a regional qualifying time of 14.21 in the 110M hurdles while Bryan Scott finished in sixth place in the 400M hurdles with a clocking of 51.05, also a regional qualifying mark.
Brad Kring posted two more regional qualifying marks in the throwing events. The Lubbock native marked tosses of 166'-9" and 56'-8" in the discus and the shot put, respectively.
In Philadelphia, the Red Raider relay squads battled rainstorms through out the day. The men's 4x100M, Tyree Gailes, Chris Adams, Matt Stewart and Earvin Parker, clocked a 40.79 in the finals of the event, finishing in fourth place. The women's 4x400M relay, Louise Cox, Shereefa Lloyd, Tori Polk and Licretia Sibley, ran to a third-place finish with a clocking of 3:29.70, the second-best mark in school history.
The men's 4x400M, Michael Mathieu, Terry Beard, Andrae Williams and Jonathan Johnson battled to the finish line for a second-place finish and the third-best time in school history, 3:03.43. Johnson took the stick from Williams in first place and led for most of the last lap. Kerron Clement, Florida's anchor, and the Mississippi State anchor passed him on his right. Johnson battled back in the last 100 meters and fought for the second-place finish.
