
Assistant Track Coach Earns National Honor

Levelland, Texas - Texas Tech assistant track and field coach Steve Silvey was inducted into the Junior College Track and Field Hall of Fame for his work at Blinn Junior College in Brenham, Texas.
Silvey, the current men's sprints and hurdles coach for the Red Raiders, won 15 national championships beginning in 1987 and continuing on until Silvey left Blinn Junior College for a position with the Arkansas track and field staff.
Silvey was recognized at the Junior College National Championships, held at South Plains College, this afternoon.
Since his arrival at Texas Tech, Silvey has produced 12 regional qualifiers, a Texas Relays champion (sprint medley relay), a Penn Relays champion (sprint medley relay), and three Big 12 Champions in Tyree Gailes (200M), Marlon Odom (110M hurdles) and Bryan Scott (400M hurdles).
Texas Tech track and field will return to competition May 27-28, at the Midwest Regional meet, in Norman, Okla.
