Red Raiders Advance 20 to National Meet

Norman, Okla.- Texas Tech track and field completed competition in the 2005 Midwest Regional Meet in Norman, Okla., this evening. The Red Raiders earned five individual titles en route to qualifying 20 athletes for the National Championships in Sacramento, Calif.
The men's squad finished second in the team competition with 85.5 points. The women's squad earned 62 points and finished third in the team rankings.
Lacy Wilson won Tech's first crown of the competition in the high jump. The 2004 Big 12 Indoor Champion cleared a height of 5'-11.25". Wilson is also the school record holder in the indoor (5'-11.25") and outdoor (6'-0.75") events.
Marlon Odom, a 2005 Big 12 Outdoor Champion, won the 110M hurdles with a time of 13.69, the third-best time in school history and also tied the John Jacobs Track Complex record.
Shereefa Lloyd, also a 2005 Outdoor Big 12 Champion, won the 400M with a clocking of 52.18
Bryan Scott was crowned Midwest Regional Champion in the 400M hurdles after his clocking of 50.13. Scott is a two-time Big 12 Champion in the event.
Tyree Gailes clocked a 20.70 in the 200M to secure the title and beat out the favored Nate Probasco of Nebraska. Gailes earned his first Big12 title in the event two weeks ago. He also earned all-region honors in 100M with a sixth-place finish.
Bobby Most was the runner-up in the pole vault with a clearance of 17'-5" and will represent Tech at the National meet. Seth Harris earned all-region honors in a tie for seventh place and a height of 17'-1".
Andrae Williams earned a silver finish in the 400M with a clocking of 45.29, a new school record. Williams replaced the previous record of 45.64, set by Albert Booker in 2003. Michael Mathieu finished fourth with a time of 46.06. Both earned all-region honors and trips to Nationals.
In the 800M Althea Chambers ran to a fourth-place finish with a time of 2:05.21, a new school record. Jonathan Johnson finished third in the men's event with a clocking of 1:47.27. Both Chambers and Johnson will be competing at Nationals.
Brionne Yosten finished in fourth place in the 1500M with a time of 4:24.41, earning all-region honors and a trip to the National Championships.
Haron Lagat finished fourth in the 3000M steeplechase with a clocking of 8:51.34 and all-region honors.
The women's 4x100M, Melissa Branch, Shereefa Lloyd, Louise Cox and JaToya Moore, set a new school record and earned a trip to Nationals with a clocking of 43.97. The group replaced the previous record of 44.35 set in 2001.
The men's 4x400M, Michael Mathieu, Andrae Williams, Jonathan Johnson and Terry Beard, clocked a time of 3:03.91 and finished in second place. The women's 4x400M, Louise Cox, Shereefa Lloyd, Tori Polk and Licretia Sibley, also earned a silver finish with a time of 3:29.94.
Those who qualified will compete in the 2005 National Championships in Sacramento, Calif., June 8-11.
