Track Adds State Champ for 2006 Season

Lubbock, Texas - Texas Tech head track and field coach Wes Kittley announced the signing of Ryan Varner to a National Letter of Intent this afternoon. The addition of Varner brings the Red Raiders' signing total to 13 for the 2005-2006 academic year.
Varner, a native of Trophy Club, Texas, is a standout sprinter at Justin North West high school. Varner's personal bests include 10.5 in the 100M and 21.19 in the 200M.
Varner is a regional and the 4-A state champion in the 200M. He also ran the anchor leg of the 4x200M relay that clocked a 1:27.66 and finished in second place at the state meet.
"Ryan has great potential," said sprints coach Steve Silvey. "He will have great potential as a 200M/400M runner for the Red Raiders in the future."
Texas Tech track and field will begin competition in the 2005 NCAA Championships, Wed, June 8.
