Carson, Calif. - Day one of USA Track and Field Championships has concluded in Carson, Calif., this evening. Of Tech's competitors today, Jonathan Johnson has moved on to the second round of the 800M.
Jonathan Johnson finished second in his heat of the 800M with a clocking of 1:50.44. Now running for Reebok, Johnson, uncharacteristically, ran most of the race from the back of the pack. He took over the third position at the 500M mark and then gained the lead at the 700M mark. Johnson was passed right before the finish line but earns an automatic trip to the semifinal round on Friday with his top three finish.
Marlon Odom finished 23rd overall in the prelims of the 110M hurdles with a clocking of 14.07 but fell short of qualifying for the semifinals of the event.
Lacy Wilson fell short of clearing the opening bar of 5'-10" in the high jump.
Scheduled for Fri., June 24, will be Bryan Scott in the prelims of the 400M hurdles and Johnson in the semifinals of the 800M. For live results, visit www.usatf.org.
