Women's Tennis Concludes Day One at Mean Green Invitational

Lubbock, Texas- The Texas Tech women's tennis team completed day one of competition at the Mean Green Invitational on the campus of North Texas, in Denton, on Friday. Competition will resume at 8 a.m. on Saturday when eight of the Lady Raiders will begin matches.
In flight A of the singles competition, Tara Browning topped Lindsay McBride of TCU, 6-1, 6-1. Klara Jagosova (UT-Arlington) defeated Tech's Samantha van der Drift, 6-1, 6-1. Cigdem Duru defeated Katherine Harris of North Texas, 6-4, 6-3. In the quarterfinals, Browning beat Jennifer Chay of SMU, 6-1, 6-1. Svetlana Kouzmenko of SMU topped Duru, 6-4, 6-3. In the consolation quarterfinals, van der Drift defeated Manuela Santos of Tyler J.C., 6-4, 6-3. In the semifinals held on Saturday, Browning will face Ina Wieding of North Texas. Christina Amo of Texas State and van der Drift will face off in the consolation semifinals, also on Staurday.
In flight B, Janet Durham received a bye in the opening round and then went on to defeat Gabby Lopez of TCU, 6-1, 6-1. Lynley Wasson of North Texas topped Lakann Wagley, 6-4, 6-3. Anne Sophie Fankam defeated Sumarie Muller of Texas State, 2-6, 6-4, 10-8. Katja Kovacic also received a bye but fell to Halley Rambally of SMU, 6-1, 6-3, in the quarterfinals. Janet Durham will face Brooke Rambally of SMU, on Saturday, in the semifinals. In the consolation quarterfinals, Wagley defeated Rachel Anders of Tyler J.C., 6-0, 6-2, and will face Leja Sirola of Texas State on Saturday.
In flight C, Deanna Carrillo topped Jolinda Bouwer, of Tyler J.C., 6-3, 6-4, in her first match as a Lady Raider. Aziza Aba Butain of North Texas defeated Lane Holder, 6-1, 6-2, in her first match as a Lady Raider. In the quarterfinals, Kristen Reid of SMU defeated Carrillo, 6-3, 6-0. After receiving a bye in the opening round, Erin Hunter fell to Jana Cucciniello of Texas State, 6-4, 1-6, 10-7. In the consolation quarterfinals, Marissa Brown of UT-Arlington topped Holder, 6-1, 6-1.
In flight A of doubles play, Fankam and Kovacic defeated Katherine Harris and Ina Wieding of North Texas, 8-5. Natalia Bubien and Svetlana Kouzmenko of SMU topped Durham and Hunter, 8-4. After receiving a bye in the opening round, Browning and Lakann Wagley powered over Christina Amo and Leja Sirola of Texas State, 8-2. Bubien and Kouzmenko of SMU defeated Fankam and Kovacic, 8-3. After receiving a bye in the opening round, Tech's Duru and van der Drift topped Lindsay McBride and Gabby Lopez of TCU, 8-4. In the semifinals on Saturday, Browning and Wagley will face Sammie Moreton and Brooke Rambally of SMU and Bubien and Kouzmenko of SMU will take on Duru and van der Drift. In the consolation quarterfinals, Durham and Hunter topped Harris and Wieding of North Texas, 8-3, and will face Ashley Ellis and Sumarie Muller of Texas State on Saturday.
In flight B of doubles action, Carrillo and Holder topped Alexandra Allin and Melissa Bere of TCU, 8-3. They then fell to Monica Neveklovska and Kristen Reid of SMU, 8-0, in the quarterfinals.
