Women's Tennis Completes Day One at Open

Lubbock, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team completed day one of competition at the Scarborough Specialties Open at the McLeod Tennis Center, in Lubbock. Four Lady Raiders will be competing in the semifinals of the singles on Saturday.
In flight A of singles play, Tara Browning advanced to the semifinals by defeating Christina Amo of Texas State, 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals and receiving a bye in the opening round. Cigdem Duru defeated Sara Baker of ACU, 6-3, 7-5, and Ina Wieding of North Texas, 6-0, 7-5, to qualify for the semifinals. Samantha van der Drift topped Terri Wilkerson of UTEP, 6-3, 6-4. She then fell to Nathalie Wallin of UTSA, 6-4, 6-1.
In flight B of singles play, Katja Kovacic defeated Elizabeth Korinek of ACU, 6-1, 6-3. She then qualified for the semifinals by topping Megan Schmulbach of North Texas, 5-7, 6-4, (11-9). Janet Durham advanced to the quarterfinals on a bye and then fell to Lainy Chafitz of Texas State, 6-3, 6-7, (11-9).
In flight C of singles play, Lakann Wagley advanced to the quarterfinals on a bye and withdrew in the quarterfinals. Erin Hunter topped Keidi Lindloff of ACU, 6-2, 6-2. She then fell to Katherine Harris of North Texas, 6-3, 7-5. Anne Sophie Fankam defeated Eva Sylvester of UTSA, 6-1, 6-1, and Amber Brightly of UTEP, 7-6, 6-2.
In flight D of singles play, Deanna Carrillo topped Anastasia Kostrubala, 6-2, 6-3. She then fell to Vicky Michaud of UTEP, 6-1, 6-3.
In the red flight of doubles, #25 Browning and Wagley topped Lynley Wasson and Ina Wieding of North Texas, 8-2. Kovacic and Hunter defeated Barbara Mooney and Nathalie Wallin of UTSA, 5-6, ret. Duru and van der Drift topped Kat Bushey and Christine Abayan of Air Force, 8-3.
In the black flight of doubles, Durham and Fankam edged Sara Baker and Alison Tetrick of ACU, 8-5.
