Red Raiders Capture First Title Since 2003

FT. MYERS, Fla. - The Texas Tech women's golf team moved to a team title at the GSU/Pelican Preserve Invitational after carding a 54-hole score of 879. The tournament victory marks the first for a Tech team since spring 2003, while the three-round score marks the lowest in school history. The Red Raiders finished with rounds of 293-292-294--879 to move ahead of Louisville and into first place in their final fall event.
Three Red Raiders finished in the top 20, with Gloriana Soto leading the way by placing in a tie for second. Soto turned in scores of 72-71-74--217 to finish 1-over-par. The 54-hole score ties for the fifth lowest in Tech history. For Soto, the tournament marks her career 18-, 36, and 54-hole scores as well as her best finish.
Melissa Fahey finished in a tie for fifth for the Red Raiders, as she carded rounds of 75-69-76--220. The tournament also marks low rounds and top finish for her. Her second-round score stands as the fourth lowest in the Tech record books. Also finishing in the top 20 was Megan Dowdy. The Leander, Texas, native fired scores of 72-76-74--222 (+6) to finish in a tie for 16th. The placing marks Dowdy's third top-20 finish of her career and the first this season.
Also competing in the title effort for Tech was Rosalyn Kim, who finished one shot shy of a tie for 20th. The freshman Red Raider carded rounds of 74-76-74--224 to place in a tie for 24th. The final member of the Tech squad was Ulrika Van Niekerk, who shot scores of 77-80-72--229 to tie for 45th.
The GSU/Pelican Preserve brings the Tech fall season to a close, capping off the season with their highest placing and lowest rounds. The Red Raiders will return to the greens on February 4th when they travel to Baja, Mexico, for the Baja Invitational to open the spring season.
