Three Hurdlers Clock NCAA Marks

Fayetteville, Ark. - Texas Tech track and field competed in day one of the Tyson Invitational, at the University of Arkansas, in Fayetteville, Ark., today. The Red Raiders posted four NCAA provisional qualifying marks, six personal bests and one school record.
In the 60M hurdle prelims, Marlon Odom finished fourth overall and first in his heat with a NCAA provisional time of 7.86, a new personal best and school record. Shawon Harris finished sixth overall with a new personal-best and NCAA provisional clocking of 7.89, the second-best mark in school history. Daryl Burgess was the final athlete from the prelims to qualify for the finals with his time of 7.94, matching his personal best. He finished eighth overall and second in his heat.
In the 60M hurdle finals, Burgess was the top Tech finisher in third place with an NCAA provisional and personal-best time of 7.90, the third-best mark in school history. Odom finished in fifth with a clocking of 7.95. Harris finished sixth with a time of 7.99.
In the women's college long jump, Sabrina Taylor finished in a tie for third and bettered her collegiate personal-best by six inches with a leap of 19'-6". She was second among Big 12 athletes who competed in this event. In the men's college long jump, Bobby Evers set a new personal-best with a leap of 23'-11.5", replacing his previous mark of 23'-7.25", finishing 10th overall.
In the women's championship long jump, Tori Polk marked a leap of 20'-11.75", the second-best mark in school history and her career, to finish in fourth place. The mark is also an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Polk has already NCAA automatically qualified with her leap of 21'-2.75" at the New Mexico Invite on Jan. 28
In the men's college mile, Orey Smith won his heat by almost three seconds with a time of 4:13.82, a new personal best. He finished fifth overall and second among Big 12 athletes. In the men's invitational 800M, Zach Glavash finished fifth with a clocking of 1:49.26, the fifth-fastest time in school history.
The men's 4x400M, Michael Mathieu (46.8 split), Harris (47.3 split), Glavash (47.3 split) and Andrae Williams (46.1 split), clocked a 3:07.62, their first NCAA provisional qualifying time of the season.
