Tech Track Preps for Big 12 Championships

Lubbock, Texas- Texas Tech track and field will be traveling to Lincoln, Neb., this weekend, for the 2006 Big 12 Indoor Championships. The meet will be held at the Bob Devaney Sports Center, Fri., Feb. 24, and Sat., Feb. 25. For complete meet details, visit www.huskers.com.
The Red Raiders had their best showing in school history at the event in 2005. Both squads placed program-highs of fourth place. Tech notched three individual titles in Lacy Wilson in the women's high jump, Andrae Williams in the 600Y and then-senior Licretia Sibley in the 400M. The hosting Nebraska Cornhuskers swept both the men's and women's team titles.
This years' competition will include five Olympians, 16 NCAA Champions, 58 NCAA All-Americans and 25 returning champions from the 2005 Big 12 Indoor Championships.
In the USTFCCCA poll, the Red Raider men are seated at No. 20. In conference action, Texas is listed at No. 2, Nebraska at No. 6, Baylor at No. 11, Kansas at No. 13 and Texas A&M at No. 14.
On the women's side, the Lady Longhorns are ranked at the top of the list, Nebraska is sitting at No. 5 and Texas A&M is ranked No. 20.
In the Trackwire 25 rankings, Tori Polk is listed at fourth in the long jump with the nation's third-best jump of 21'-2.75". Misty Coley is seated 10th in the high jump with the nation's ninth-best clearance of 5'-11.25".
On the men's side, Zach Glavash, the highest of only four Americans on the list, is seated at fourth in the 800M. Andrae Williams is ranked 11th in the 400M. Daryl Burgess and Marlon Odom are seated at ninth and 11th, respectively, on the 60M hurdles list. Bobby Most is ranked 11th in the pole vault. The men's 4x400M relay, Michael Mathieu, Shawon Harris, Zach Glavash, Andrae Williams, is ranked seventh with the eight-best time in the nation, 3:07.62.
