No. 21 Men's Tennis Wins Double Header

Lubbock, Texas - No. 21 Texas Tech men's tennis defeated Prairie View A&M, 6-0, and the Abilene Christian, 5-1, in it's season opener, at the McLeod Tennis Center, in Lubbock, this afternoon. The Red Raiders begin the 2006 season at 2-0.
In the singles matches against Prairie View A&M, at the No. 1 spot, Adrian Prpic edged Chiridza, 6-2, 6-2. At the No. 2 spot, Dimitrio Martinez topped Narido, 6-1, 6-0. Christian Rojmar played at the No. 3 spot and defeated Talavera, 6-0, 6-1. At the No. 4 spot, Michael Breler edged Herrera, 6-2, 6-1. Mario Janjic played at the No. 5 spot and defeated Godoy, X., 6-1, 6-1. At the No. 6 spot, Jay Wofford topped Godoy, L., 6-4, 6-2.
Results of the singles match against Abilene are at the No. 1 spot, Prpic edged Steenkamp, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5. At the No. 2 spot, Martinez topped Ray, 6-3, 6-2. Rojmar defeated Nunez, 6-3, 6-1. At the No. 4 spot, Breler edged Hudson, 6-1, 6-3. At the No. 5 spot, ACU's George Carstens defeated Red Raider Sinisa Markovic, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. At the No. 6 spot, Teddy DiBlasi defeated Beedy, 6-2, 6-0.
"This was a good start for our freshman. Five of seven players are freshman," said head coach Tim Siegel. "Abilene had the best team I've seen since I've been at Tech, and overall, it was a good first day."
The Red Raiders host their next match Sunday, February 12 at 11 a.m. against Texas Southern.
