Tech Track Opens Outdoor Season in Lubbock

Lubbock, Texas - Texas Tech track and field will officially open the outdoor season at the Wes Kittley Open, March 24, 2006, at R.P. Fuller Stadium. Head coach Wes Kittley is beginning his seventh outdoor season in Lubbock. The field events will begin at 12 p.m., with the running events starting at 3 p.m.
Joining the Red Raiders on the track will be South Plains College, New Mexico State and New Mexico J.C.
Last week at the ASU Multis, in the heptathlon, Julianne Kennedy finished second among eight competitors with 4,955 points, a new school record. The sophomore replaces her previous school record of 4,937, set at Texas Relays in 2005. She posted marks of 14.79 in the 100M hurdles, 5'-6.5" in the high jump, 38'-0" in the shot put, 26.02 in the 200M, 17'-11.5" in the long jump, 93'-11" in the javelin and 2:31.57 in the 800M. Kennedy posted personal bests in the 200M, 800M and the javelin.
In the decathlon, Andrews finished first of nine competitors with 7,044 points. Smith placed fifth with 5,229 points and Robinson was sixth with 4,786. Andrews' mark is also an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Andrews recorded a 11.58 in the 100M, 22'-3.75' in the long jump, 40'-0" in the shot put, 6'-2.75" in the high jump, 52.35 in the 400M, 14.93 in the 110M hurdles, 133'-4" in the discus, 14'-7.5" in the pole vault, 180'-11" in the javelin and 5:01.55 in the 1500M. All of Andrews' marks are personal bests.
