Tech Track Finds 14 Regional Qualifying Marks in Lubbock

Lubbock, Texas - Texas Tech track and field tallied 14 regional qualifying marks at the Wes Kittley Open, at R.P. Fuller Stadium, in Lubbock, on Friday. Freshman D'Andra Carter set a new school record in the discus in her first outdoor event as a Red Raider.
Carter won the discus with a regional qualifying mark of 171'-5", replacing the previous school record of 169'-3", set by Megan Schuessler in 2003.
Patience Knight finished second in the discus with a regional qualifying mark of 165'-3". Knight also finished second in the hammer throw with a toss of 136'-10".
In the men's 200M, the Red Raiders took a 1-2-3 finish. Andrae Williams won the event with a regional qualifying clocking of 20.81. Michael Mathieu finished second with a 21.00. Ryan Varner ran a personal-best 21.11, good for a third-place finish and a regional qualifying time.
In the women's high jump, Misty Coley and Lacy Wilson tied for first place with a regional qualifying clearance of 5'-8.75".
In the 110M hurdles, Marlon Odom took first with a regional qualifying of 13.71 and Shawon Harris ran a 13.86, good for a second-place finish and a regional qualifying time.
Defending Big 12 champion and Lubbock native Bryan Scott finished second in the 400M hurdles with a clocking 51.74, also a regional qualifying time.
Brad Kring marked regional qualifying throws in the discus with a throw of 178'-4" and in the shot put with a toss of 55'-2". Harrison Benjamin also qualified in the shot put with his winning throw of 58'-7.5".
