Kittley Adds Two to 2007 Signing Class

Lubbock, Texas - Texas Tech track and field head coach Wes Kittley announced the signing of two more student-athletes for the 2006-2007 year. Kittley's singing class is now at 11 in the early stages of the signing period.
Janell Appelhans is a native of Perryton, Texas and attends Perryton high school. Appelhans will have an immediate impact on the sprints and jumps groups with her personal bests of 11.43 in the 100M, 24.1 in the 200M and 19'-10" in the long jump. She also has potential to run with the 4x100M and 4x400M relays. In the classroom, she is a member of the National Honor Society and has been named academic all-district in three sports.
Appelhans finished first in the 2005 District I-3A in the 100M (11.87), 200M (24.01) and long jump (18-4.5). She finished first in all three events at the Region I-3A meet (12.09/24.87/18'-8.75"). She also competed in all three events at the state meet, finishing fifth in the 100M (12.29), second in the 200M (25.06) and third in the long jump (18'-3").
Jake Szot, a native of Cypress, Texas, is a distance runner at CyFair high school. He is a four-year letter winner and team captain in cross country and track and field. He has recorded personal bests of 1:59.6 in the 800M, 4:23.3 in the 1600M and 9:36.5 in the 3200M.
Szot was second at the 2005 District 17-5A in both the 1600M (4:25.99) and the 3200M (9:39.63). He then finished seventh at the Region III-5A meet in the 1600M with a 4:25.69.
