Kipyego Earns First Indoor Honor

IRVING, Texas - After one competition already in the books, Texas Tech's Sally Kipyego has already earned her first Big 12 Athlete of the Week honor for indoor track. The Marakwet, Kenya, native earned the honor twice during the 2006 cross country season.
The reigning 2006 cross country national champion, Kipyego earned Tech's first NCAA automatic mark on Jan. 20, 2007, in the women's mile. She finished the race in a time of 4:43.04 to break the Athletic Training Center's record of 4:45.24.
Kipyego ran a leg of the women's distance medley relay at the Texas Tech Invitational, which also set a facility record with a time of 11:44.14.
The sophomore Red Raider will next travel to Seattle, Wash., to compete at the Husky Invitational on Saturday, January 27th. For complete coverage, please visit www.texastech.com.
