Tech Adds Provisional Qualifier at Dan DeHart Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Texas Tech added another female athlete to the list that has met an NCAA provisional mark, as Lindsey Walesheck qualified in the pole vault Friday at the Dan DeHart Invitational. The senior from Cedar Park, Texas, finished fifth after clearing a height of 13'-0.25", a new personal best.
Five Red Raider men marked distances in the long jump, with Bobby Evers finishing second with a personal best of 24'-4.5". The mark is the longest indoor distance for Tech since 1992. Four Tech newcomers finished with solid debuts, including a six-seven-eight finish for freshmen Lyle Leong, Jamar Wall and Anthony Flemons. Leong jumped for 23'-6.75", Wall for 23'-4" and Flemons marked 23'-3.25". Waylon Randolph, the Humble, Texas, native, placed 10th, jumping 23'-0.5".
Patience Knight recorded a new personal best in the weight throw, tossing for 53'-1". She finished in 10th place.
Three of Tech's hurdlers qualified for tomorrow's 60M hurdle final, with senior Marlon Odom leading the way. Odom finished with the fastest time in Friday's preliminary heats with a run of 7.99. With the second fastest time, freshman Omo Osaghae clocked an 8.03, his personal best mark. Senior Bryan Scott was the third qualifying Red Raider with a time of 8.25.
In the women's 60M hurdles, Tori Smith and Sandra Iwunze each had personal best marks with times of 8.90 and 8.93, respectively. Despite the individual accomplishment for each, both failed to qualify for Saturday's final.
Two Red Raiders qualified for the finals in the 60M dash, one for the women and one for the men. On the women's side, freshman Jonisha Boleware qualified with a mark of 7.64, while Ryan Adkins ran a time of 7.02. Boleware will compete in the finals set for 10:55 a.m., while Adkins is scheduled to run in the 11 a.m. final.
Katie Leonard finished the 3000M in third place for Tech with a time of 10:46.38.
Julianne Kennedy competed in the women's pentathlon early on Friday, finishing with 3,684 points for seventh place. Kennedy's point total is her third highest mark for her indoor career.
