Odom Highlights Day at Texas Tech Open

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior Marlon Odom clocked his second provisional mark in the 60M hurdles at Saturday's Texas Tech Open from the Athletic Training Center. The Killeen, Texas, native finished first in a time of 7.88 (altitude adjusted: 7.90), marking the fastest time in the Big 12 thus far.
Also finishing with a second provisional mark was Patience Knight in the shot put. The sophomore Red Raider threw a distance of 52'-7.5", her second best career throw, to finish first in the event.
Earning her first provisional mark of the season was senior Lacy Wilson in the women's high jump. The Red Raider from Shamrock, Texas, cleared a height of 5'-10" to place first in the event. Teammate Misty Coley finished second with a height of 5'-8".
More than a dozen Tech members set personal bests, including two from multis competitor Julianne Kennedy. The junior from Sherman, Texas, finished second in the women's long jump with a leap of 18'-11.25", bettering her previous mark of 18'-2.5". She also finished the 60M hurdles finals in third place with a PR of 8.82. Freshman Sandra Iwunze finished behind Kennedy in fifth place with a run of 8.91 after clocking a personal best in the preliminary heat with a time of 8.84.
Tech's freshmen sprinters, Jonisha Boleware and Ryan Adkins, marked personal bests in the 55M. Boleware clocked a time of 7.11 to beat her previous mark of 7.16. Adkins ran a time of 6.46 to shave .10 seconds off of his personal best which he ran in his collegiate debut for the Red Raiders. Each newcomer finished the 55M finals in third place.
Thower Ozie Okolie also recorded a personal best, as she finished second in the women's weight throw behind teammate Knight. Okolie had a toss of 52'-3.75", besting her mark of 50'-10" from the Texas Tech Invitational on January 19th.
The Red Raider men's 4x400M relay squad took first place with a time of 3:14.83. The team members ran the following split times: Brandon Washington, 48.1; Jansen Hyde, 50.4; Bryan Scott, 47.7; and Rodney Mims, 48.5.
In the men's 600Y, Washington and Mims each notched personal bests, running 1:10.43 and 1:11.84 to finish second and third, respectively. Zach Plinario ran a time of 49.59 to finish third in the men's 400M, also a best mark for the Richardson, Texas, native. In the 200M, Omo Osaghae, who finished second in the 60M hurdles finals, took second place with a run of 21.90, finished ahead of Adkins in a time of 21.97. Both marks for the Red Raider freshmen are personal bests.
Next week the Red Raiders will host the Texas Tech Open, including the pentathlon on Friday, February 9th. The remaining events will take place on Saturday, February 10th.
