RIO VERDE, Ariz. - After finishing the first day of competition in fourth place, the Texas Tech women's golf team fell one place to a tie for fifth after the second round of the Rio Verde Invitational. The Red Raiders had a slightly higher second round and now have scores of 300-304--604 (+28).
Similar to yesterday's competition, two Tech individuals are in the top 20 with Ulrika Van Niekerk leading the way. Tied for 11th after day one, sophomore van Niekerk moved up to a tie for ninth after 36 holes. The South Africa native has carded rounds of 74-74--148, four-over-par. Moving up 11 positions was sophomore Gloriana Soto who now has rounds of 76-74--150, six-over-par. Soto sat in a tie for 25th after one round and is now tied for 14th.
Rosalyn Kim, who was tied for 11th after Friday, fell to a tie for 22nd on Saturday. Kim now has scores of 74-78--152. Megan Dowdy and Tracy Stanford are each tied for 55th with a 12-over 156. Tech's sixth competitor, Brynn Anderson, is in 72nd place with scores of 80-79--159.
Yesterday's leader Baylor fell to second place after shooting 11 more shots on the day and Toledo took over the lead with rounds of 298-289--587. Baylor's Allison Martin took sole possession of the individual lead as she has turned in scores of 69-72--141.
