Red Raiders Begin Strong at UNLV Spring Invitational

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - After finishing fifth at the Rio Verde Invitational on Sunday, the Texas Tech women's golf team is tied for seventh in a much tougher UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational field. The Red Raiders are competing at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in their second of back-to-back tournaments and fired a first-round score of 298, 10-over-par.
Rosalyn Kim, who had career number at the Rio Verde, is leading the Red Raider squad for the second-straight tournament. The Belton, Texas, freshman is currently tied for eighth after shooting a new 18-hole personal best of 2-under 70. She fired a 1-under 71 in Arizona on Sunday, a then-career low round.
With a 3-over-par 75 are two Tech members, Megan Dowdy and Ulrika Van Niekerk, making each tied for 38th position. Also tied with Dowdy and van Niekerk is Brynn Anderson who is competing as an individual. Tracy Stanford finished the first day at the Boulder Creek course with a score of 78 and is tied for 71st. Tied for 91st is sophomore Gloriana Soto with a first-round score of 82.
No. 14 BYU is currently in the lead with an 8-under 280, while No. 15 New Mexico is four shots back with a first-round 284. In a field of six ranked teams, the Red Raiders sit in a tie with No. 37 San Francisco and lead No. 30 UNLV, No. 39 Campbell and No. 50 Washington State.
On Tuesday, March 13, the Red Raiders will continue play at the Boulder Creek Golf Club with the second round of the UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational. Live results can be found on www.golfstat.com and Texas Tech results will be posted online at www.texastech.com.
