NCAA Track and Field Championship Declaration Lists Announced

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders will be represented at the 2007 NCAA Championships with a contingent of 12 student-athletes, as announced by the release of the declarations lists Monday evening. Seven men will compete in four events, while five women will be battling in five events.
For the men, returning All-Americans Kevin Chelimo, Marlon Odom and Bryan Scott are listed as qualifiers for the Red Raiders. Chelimo will run in the 5000M, while Odom, who won the 60M hurdles at the Big 12 meet, will search for All-American status in the same event. Scott, along with freshmen Brandon Washington and Tim Foster and sophomore Rodney Mims, qualified as the Tech men's 4x400M relay squad after running their best mark at the Last Chance meet in Ames, Iowa, last weekend. A third Red Raider freshman qualified as Anthony Flemons had the second-best mark in the men's triple jump to make the cut.
On the women's side, cross country All-Americans Sally Kipyego and Irene Kimaiyo will run in distance events at the NCAA Championships. Kipyego qualified for the 3000M and 5000M and will run with teammate Kimaiyo in the 3000M. Big 12 pentathlon champion Julianne Kennedy will compete in the same event at the final indoor meet as she finished with the 11th best point total in the nation.
In field events, two Tech women, who recently broke school records at the Big 12 Indoor Championships, qualified for the meet. Lacy Wilson will compete in the women's high jump, while Lindsey Walesheck will compete in her first championships in the women's pole vault.
The 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships will begin on Fri., March 9th, from the Randal Tyson Center in Fayetteville, Ark. A complete pre-meet release will be available on www.texastech.com, as well as coverage of the event after completion of each day.
