Odom Clocks School-Record 110M Hurdle Time

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Red Raider track teams wrapped up the first day of competition at the 98th-annual Drake Relays with a number of personal bests and a school record. Senior Marlon Odom had a strong showing in the men's 110M hurdle after he captured the school wind-legal record with the fastest preliminary time of the event.
Three-time All-American Odom, who has already notched the fastest 110M hurdle mark in the country, a wind-aided 13.50, ran a time of 13.56 in the preliminary heat on Friday. The run breaks the previous wind-legal school record of 13.60 set by Shawon Harris at the 2006 TCU Invitational. Odom now owns the top five times in Texas Tech history, including a top wind-aided mark of 13.45. The Killeen, Texas, product will take part in Saturday's final scheduled for 2:40 p.m.
Junior Michael Cast threw a personal-best distance by nearly four feet in the men's javelin. The Pearland, Texas, native, who tallied his first regional mark last week at the TCU Invitational, had a toss of 207'-03" to place fourth in the event and improve his previous PR of 203'-8".
Earning a first career regional mark on Friday was freshman Anthony Flemons in the men's long jump. The Childress, Texas, native finishing ninth after jumping a distance of 24'-1.5". In the same event, junior Bobby Evers took fourth place with a mark of 24'-6.5".
Red Raider women took the silver and bronze position in the women's pole vault with two regional marks. Amanda Alley finished in second and Kelley Schulz was third as each cleared a height of 12'-11.5". The height marks a second-best height for Alley and becomes the fourth-regional mark this season for both Tech members.
Two Techsters ran personal best marks during Friday's preliminary heats. Junior Julianne Kennedy finished fourth in her heat of the 100M hurdles with a mark of 14.16 to set a personal best by .04 of a second. Freshman Ryan Adkins clocked a time of 10.85 to place 23rd in the men's 100M sprint, beating his previous PR of 10.95 from the Texas Tech Open. Both Kennedy and Adkins missed qualifying for their respective finals.
The Red Raider men qualified for Saturday's final of the 4x400M relay after running a time of 3:08.39 to finish sixth. The team of Rodney Mims, Bryan Scott, Tim Foster and Brandon Washington will run at approximately 6 p.m. Saturday. The women's 4x400M relay team missed a regional mark by .24 of a second, finishing in a time of 3:42.24. The squad consisting of Louise Cox, Keshima Starks, Erica Worthy and Sandra Iwunze finishing in 13th to miss qualifying for the finals of the Drake Relays.
