IRVING, Texas - For the second straight week during the outdoor season, a Texas Tech athlete was named the Big 12 Male Athlete of the Week as Kevin Chelimo earned the honor for the week of April 3rd. Senior Bryan Scott was honored as the first outdoor Athlete of Week for the 2007 season last week.
The honor comes after Chelimo earned an NCAA automatic mark at the Stanford Invitational with a run of 28:21.29 in the men's 10000M. The mark set a school record as well as a personal best for the Kabarnat, Kenya. The previous school record was 29:37.54 while his PR was at 29:39.30. The time currently sits as the second-fastest mark in the nation.
The award from the conference marks a third time for Chelimo, as he earned two during the 2006 cross country season.
