LUBBOCK, Texas - With the release of the first Trackwire Top 25 of the outdoor season, both Red Raider men and women are listed in the rankings. The women enter with the highest ranking of the two as they are tied for 14th with 20 points predicted. For the men, a 15-point projection puts the Red Raiders at a tie for 22nd in the nation.
The women finished the indoor season with a ranking each week, moving from as low as 25th to a high of fifth. The team finished with a final ranking of 10th, the highest finish ever for the Tech track women.
The men finished in the polls twice during the indoor, debuting at a tie for 18th. They fell off the radar, but reentered at a tie for 20th two weeks later. The team finished 30th in the nation at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
During last year's outdoor slate, the Tech men were in the rankings the first six weeks. The first polls had the men in a tie for ninth and the Red Raiders moved to a tie for seventh the following week. The next five weeks Tech faltered as they slipped to 12th, t14th, t15th, t15th and eventually not receiving a ranking.
Atop the women's rankings are 2007 NCAA indoor champions Arizona State with 58 points. Florida State, who finished second at this year's indoor championships, is leading the men's polls with 62 points.
