LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Baseball team will begin preparations for the 2008 season on Wednesday afternoon as the squad begins fall practice.
A total of 39 players will be vying for a roster spot next spring as fall drills begin at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Hays Field on the Lubbock Christian University Campus. Texas Tech will hold fall workouts at various locations across the city due to the new FieldTurf that is being installed at Dan Law Field. The FieldTurf project is expected to be completed by early November.
The Texas Tech baseball team continues under the same leadership of the NCAA's third-winningest head coach in Larry Hays but also has some new direction. In the off-season, Tech hired Dan Spencer away from Oregon State where he had helped lead the Beavers to back-to-back national titles. Spencer will serve as Associate Head Coach and will oversee the pitchers and catchers. Trent Petrie (previously at New Mexico) joined the staff alongside Spencer and will coach the infield.
Texas Tech will conclude fall practice on Friday, Nov. 2.
