LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Sports Network and Texas Tech Baseball are pleased to announce Robert Giovannetti as the next voice of Red Raider Baseball beginning in the 2008 season.
Giovannetti replaces Mark Finkner who resigned his play-by-play duties earlier this month after spending the last 12 seasons as the voice of the Red Raiders.
"We are pleased to have Robert Giovannetti join our broadcasting team on the Texas Tech Sports Network," said Associate A.D. and Chief of Staff Craig Wells. "Coach Larry Hays and his 2008 Red Raider baseball team are going to be exciting to watch and Robert is going to be leading the way for fans that can not make it out to the games with play-by play-action on TTSN affiliates. Former Red Raider pitcher Matt Miller will be joining Robert in the booth for selected home games and together we anticipate a year full of exciting baseball action."
This will be the first play-by-play radio assignment for Giovannetti but not his first stint on the radio as he has co-hosted Tech Talk on Fox Talk 950 AM since 2003. Tech Talk has been one of the fastest growing sports talk shows in the Lubbock area and is co-hosted by Chris Level. He has owned and operated Red Raider Sports Magazine since 2000, co-published RedRaiderSports.com since 2003 and is a partner in TRI Productions that specializes in online training programs.
Giovannetti will be joined in the booth by former Tech All-American Matt Miller who will serve as the color analyst at home while Blayne Beal, Associate Media Relations Director for Baseball, will provide commentary on the road.
Texas Tech kicks off its 2008 season at home on Feb. 22 against Northern Illinois. The complete 2008 schedule will be released as soon as final details have been completed. All games will continue to be carried locally on KKAM 1340.
