Tech Finishes First Day of Invitational with Good Results

Lubbock, Texas- The Red Raiders first day of competition at the Texas Tech Invitational returned promising results. Tech finished the day with four first place finishes as they opened the indoor season.
The Lady Raiders `A' distance medley relay team of Gladys Kipsang, Shannon Jackson, Christina Graham and Sally Kipyego struck first, winning the event with a time of 11:46.31. Finishing third, running a 13:02.77, was the Lady Raiders `B' team of Katherine Priebe, Tori Epperson, Chep Boit and Michelle Guzman. Priebe, Guzman and Jackson were all competing in their first collegiate meet.
Kelley Schulz started the season strong by beating 23 competitors, winning the pole vault with a height of 12'-02". Julianne Kennedy won the long jump with a mark of 18'-06". Kearci Jobe, also competing in her first collegiate meet, placed seventh in the 600Y with a time of 1:31.03.
The Red Raiders had three DMR teams competing in the first day of the Texas Tech Invitational. The `A' team of Silas Kemboi, Jamaal Butler, Gilbert Limo and Edwin Sang ran a winning time of 10:20.26. Cory Higgins, Matt Davidson, Logan Culotta and David Boston placed second as the `B' team running a time of 10:44.31. The `C' team of John Means, Jansen Hyde, Aaron Greer and Chase Wade placed fifth with a time of 11:06.46. Culotta, Davidson and Limo competed in their first collegiate meet.
The Red Raiders will be competing in the second day of the Texas Tech Invitational tomorrow starting at 10:00 a.m. with field events. Live meet results can be found at www.texastech.com.
