Raiders Fall Short at Lamar

Lubbock, Texas -- Texas Tech dropped their first road game of the season to Lamar in Beaumont, Texas on Saturday night, 85-79.
Senior Alan Voskuil led the Red Raiders in scoring with 19 points. Teammate John Roberson followed with 18 points. D'walyn Roberts dropped in 14 points and Trevor Cook added 11 points.
The Red Raiders (7-2) trailed at the half, 32-34, with both teams shooting below 40 percent from the field. Texas Tech was 12-of-31 (.371) while the Cardinals were 13-of-35 (.371).
In the second half, Lamar made 17-of-25 attempts from the field (.680) while Texas Tech managed to hit 17-of-43 attempts (.395).
Despite Tech's shooting performance, they pulled within one point, 78-77, on a three-pointer by Alan Voskuil with 36 seconds left. After a Texas Tech foul, Lamar's Kenny Dawkins made his first free throw attempt to give the Cardinals a two-point margin, 79-77. Dawkins missed his second attempt but the rebound was grabbed by teammate Jay Brown who was fouled two seconds later. Brown made both free throws to stretch Lamar's margin to four points with 32 seconds remaining.
The teams added two free throws each before Dawkins made his final two free throws to move the Cardinal lead to six points with 11 seconds on the clock, 85-79.
Texas Tech's final shot by Mike Singletary with one second on the clock fell short.
The Red Raiders are on the road on Wednesday, December 17 in El Paso against the Miners of UTEP. The tip-off will be at 8:00 PM (Central).
