LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech 2009 men's track incoming recruiting class was recently named the sixth-best recruiting class in the nation by Track & Field News.
Tech's head track coach Wes Kittley's 10th class is headlined by three Texas high school state champions in distance runner Zach Dawson, sprinter Markus Henderson and hurdler Brandon Tucker. Dawson won the class 4A 1600M, while Henderson won the 5A 200M and Tucker won both the 110M hurdles and 300M hurdles. Jamele Mason should make an early impact as he was runner-up to Tucker in the 300M hurdles.
The women's squad has some impressive new faces coming in the spring as well. Junior college transfer Lillian Badaru earned her first All-American honor as a Red Raider as she finished 14th at the NCAA cross country championships. Terra Evans brings some speed to the program as she won the 100M and 200M at the Arizona 5A state meet. Sage Lasater was the runner-up at the Texas 4A state meet in pole vault clearing 12'-00".
Texas Tech begins the indoor season on Fri., Jan. 16th, hosting the Texas Tech Invitational at the Athletic Training Center. Tech will host three indoor meets and two outdoor meets before hosting the Big 12 Championships on May 15th - 17th.
