LINCOLN, Neb. - Texas Tech will begin competition at the Big 12 Indoor Championships in Lincoln, Neb. on Fri.-Sat. Feb 29 - March 1. Events will be held at the Bob Devaney Sports Center starting at 9:30 a.m. with the women's pentathlon. The Red Raiders will be traveling with over 47 athletes as they look to improve on last season's sixth and third places they finished with last season.
The women will be looking at the five-time National Champion Sally Kipyego, who won three Big 12 Championships last season, to add to her list of championships. Julianne Kennedy, the defending pentathlon champion, will look to repeat the feat starting on Fri. morning. Kipyego and Kennedy are the only individual returning champions for Tech. Tech's women shot put record might change hands again this weekend as
D'Andra Cater and Patience Knight will both throw on Saturday. Carter set the school record last week with a throw of 52'8.25"
The men have numerous athletes who could score points during the weekend. Shawon Harris, Omo Osaghae, Jansen Hyde and Nathan Lowry will try to keep the 60M hurdles title at Tech as Marlon Odom won the event last season.
In the field events, Anthony Flemons has the 11th best triple jump in the nation and fourth best in conference. Flemons also has the best long jump mark in conference going into Friday's event. Brian Porter has the second best pole vault mark in the conference and will compete in the pole vault on Saturday.
