Postseason Honors Adding Up for Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas- Texas Tech's Sally Kipyego and sprints coach Dion Miller were honored as the Mountain Region Female Athlete of the Year and Assistant Coach of the Year for the 2008 indoor season. This is the second year in a row that Kipyego has won the honor.
Kipyego was honored after defending her titles in the mile and 3000M at the Big 12 Championships. The time of 4:36.31 in the mile set a Big 12 Championship meet record and a Tech school record. Her 5000M time of 15:32.09 is the fastest time in the nation. The Kenyan native has also been honored as the Big 12 Female Athlete of the Year and the High-Point Award at the Big 12 Championships. Kipyego will look to defend her NCAA titles in the 3000M and 5000M starting on Fri. March 14.
Returning to Tech after stints at Washington and Arizona State, Miller has wasted little time putting his mark on Tech's sprinters. His impressive resume includes sweeping the 60M and 60M hurdles at the Big 12 Championships with Julius Walker and Shawon Harris winning the events. Miller has also guided the men's 4x400M relay to the fifth fastest time in the nation at 3:06.93.
The regional awards were voted on by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Kipyego and Miller will be traveling to the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville Ark. on March 14-15.
