Track Heads to NCAA Indoor Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Texas Tech will be sending 11 athletes to compete at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Championships starting Fri., March 14. Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark. will be the host of the final indoor meet.
The three Lady Raiders traveling were all Big 12 Champions. Five-time NCAA champion Sally Kipyego will begin her defense of her titles with the 5000M on Friday. Julianne Kennedy returns to compete in the pentathlon after finishing 14th at last year championships. Thrower Patience Knight will be making her first trip to the indoor championships in the shot put. Five Red Raider men made the cut for running events led by Shawon Harris who qualified for the 60M hurdles. Harris will be looking for his second indoor All-American honor of his career. An impressive three freshman Lamont Adams, Bill Lawhorn and Gil Roberts will be teamed with Harris to run the 4x400M relay on Sat. night. Julius Walker, the 2007 60M NJCAA champion, will try to duplicate a NCAA championship on Fri.
Anthony Flemons leads the three men in the field events for the Red Raiders. Flemons is entered in the long jump and triple jump. Brian Porter will be pole-vaulting in the NCAA Indoor Championships for the first time in his career. Lyle Leong is also making his first trip to the championships, as he is the eighth ranked high jumper in the nation.
