Lady Raiders Tame Wildcats

LUBBOCK, Texas - After splitting last weekend's matches at home, the women's tennis team tabbed in another road win today to their record as they defeated the Kansas State Wildcats 5-2 in Manhattan. The Lady Raiders improve their conference record to 3-3, 10-7 overall on the season.
Setting the tone early was the freshman pair of Kelsy Garland and Simone Templeton winning 8-1 at No. 3. Soon to follow was the veteran pair of Janet Durham and Samantha van der Drift as they clinched the doubles point over the Wildcat's duo of Katerina Kudlackova and Olga Klimova 8-5. Brenna Jackson and Kerryn Potgieter rounded out doubles competition with their victory over Antea Hulijev and Vanessa Cottin 7-5 in the tiebreaker.
Tech's second point of the match came courtesy of Garland as she scored a win at the No. 2 position over Hulijev in straight sets. At the No. 4 position Templeton defeated Cottin, 6-3, 6-3. The match was clinched at No. 3 when senior leader Durham took the hard fought victory of her own over K-State's Kudlackova, 6-3, 6-3. Next, Tech's Leah Roberts played at the No. 6 spot, pulling out the super-tiebreaker victory against Klimova, 6-3, 2-6, 12-10. The Wildcats finally got on the scoreboard as they took the last two points of the match. Viviana Yrueta defeated van der Drift at No. 1, 7-5, 6-3, followed by Natasha Vieira closing the match over Potgieter10-7 in the super-tiebreaker.
