NCAA Midwest Regional Next Stop for Red Raiders

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech will be sending 31 student-athletes to the NCAA Midwest Regional in Lincoln, Neb. for a chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Familiar faces will be returning to the Midwest Regional to try and repeat last season's success. Six-time national champion Sally Kipyego will be looking for her second regional crown in the 5000M. Irene Kimaiyo who leads the nation in the 3000M steeplechase will be looking for her first regional title.
All-American D'Andra Carter in the discus and Patience Knight in the shot put will both be looking for regional titles. Carter is the top ranked discus thrower in the nation and Knight in the third ranked shot put thrower. Sandra Iwunze will be looking to add a regional title to her Big 12 Championships in the 400M hurdles. She is currently ranked sixth in the nation. Senior Kelley Schulz can earn her fourth trip to the NCAA Championships in the pole vault this weekend. Schulz placed fourth last season at the regional meet.
Shawon Harris will be looking for a return trip to the NCAA Championships in the 100M hurdles. Other men looking to return to the NCAA Championships are Anthony Flemons, Bobby Evers, Rodney Mims and Tim Foster.
Competition at the Midwest Regional will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday with the women's hammer throw. Live streaming video of the track meet can be seen at www.huskers.com and clicking on the radio link. Results and a final recap can be found by logging onto www.texastech.com.
