Red Raiders Have Solid Second Day at NCAA Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa - The second day of the NCAA Championships was full of sunshine and Red Raiders advancing to the next round. Texas Tech had four individuals and the 4x400M relay qualify for the next round of the championships.
Tech's two 110M hurdlers both qualified for the semis of the NCAA Championships. Shawon Harris placed second in his heat with the sixth fastest qualifying time of 13.60. Omo Osaghae, competing in his first NCAA Championships, ran a personal-best time of 13.69 to qualify 13th. Harris and Osaghe will run the semis tomorrow at 8:05 p.m.
Harrison Benjamin made the most of his first trip the NCAA Championships as he qualified for the finals of the shot put. He was the 12th qualifier with a throw of 58'-11".
Sally Kipyego will have a chance to compete for the 1500M national title. The All-American qualified for the finals with a time of 4:17.28. She will run for her seventh NCAA title tomorrow in the 5,000M at 8:10 p.m.
Patience Knight qualified for the finals of the shot put with a throw of 52'-8.75". She had the tenth best throw of the prelims. She will throw the shot put finals on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
The men's 4x400M relay of Rodney Mims, Shawon Harris, Tim Foster and Gil Roberts ran a time of 3:04.37 to win its prelim. The 4x400M relay had the second fastest qualifying time of the day. They automatically qualify for the finals on Saturday at 4:48 p.m.
Sandra Iwunze failed to qualify for the final of the 400M hurdles as she ran a time of 1:00.26.
