Tech Wins Four Titles on First Day of Tech Invite

LUBBOCK, TEXAS - The Texas Tech track squads started the indoor season by winning four titles on the first day of the Texas Tech Invitational being held at the Athletic Training Center.
The women's distance medley relay `A' squad of Lillian Badaru, Jonisha Boleware, Asia Diaz and Sally Kipyego started the season off by winning the race with a NCAA provisional time and set an ATC record. The time of 11:20.75 broke the ATC record by over 23 seconds.
The women's `B' DMR team of Brintney Green, Kaci Westervelt, Shannon Jackson and Addison LeMaster finished fourth in a time of 12:56.44.
Junior Ozie Okolie won the women's weight throw with an ATC record. Her winning mark of 62'-4" is also an NCAA provisional mark.
The men's distance medley relay `A" team of Gilbert Liamo, Zach Plinario, Cory Higgins and Nathan Milles, won the event with a time of 10:16.51.
The `B' squad of Jake Szot, Jamal Butler, Zack Dawson and Logan Culotta finished third in a time of 10:30.73 and the `C' squad of David Boston, Paul Julmeus, Chase Wade and Jeremy Kight ran a time of 10:47.51 to place fourth.
Junior transfer Trudeann Clarke won the 600Y in her first race as a Lady Raider in a time of 1:23.65. Devin Bailey, also running her first race for Tech, ran a time of 1:33.45. Caroline Mueller ran a time of 1:40.88 in her first race as a Lady Raider as well.
In the men's 600Y sophomore Lamont Adams finished second in a time of 1:11.30, to former All-American Red Raider Jonathan Johnson. Brandon Washington, after redshirting last season, ran a time of 1:12.65 to place sixth. Freshman Tucker Schneemann ran a time of 1:19.81.
The women had two long jumpers as Veronica DiLullo jumped 18'-2.50 to place fifth and Janelle Appelhans finished in seventh place with a distance of 17'-11.50".
Chuck Zavala cleared 6'-5" to place fifth in the high jump and placed 11th in the long jump with a leap of 21'-6.25". Nic Green was right behind him finishing 12th with a jump of 21'-3.50".
The last race of the night was the 5000M. Kayla Sayegh finished in fifth for the Lady Raiders with a time of 20:03.98 and the Red Raiders had Eric Ayala running as he ran a time of 16:42.92 to place eighth.
The Texas Tech Invitational will continue tomorrow at the Athletic Training Center starting with the 10 a.m. with the triple jump and shot put.
