Flemons Punches Ticket to NCAA Championships in Triple Jump

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Texas Tech's All-American Anthony Flemons jumped his way into the NCAA Indoor Championships by winning the triple jump at the Lobo Invitational with a NCAA automatic mark of 53'-00.75"
Flemons mark is a personal best and fourth best in the nation currently. Darrell Roddick finished third with a NCAA provisional mark of 50'-9.50".
Freshman Terra Evans ran a personal-best and NCAA provisional time of 7.39 in the 60M. Her time placed her second overall in the 60M. Freshman Markus Henderson also finished second in the men's final with a time of 6.87.
Junior Trudeann Clarke ran her first NCAA provisional mark of her career as a Lady Raider finishing in second in the 400M with a provisional time of 54.40.
Sophomore Roberts won the men's 200M in a NCAA provisional time of 21.09. The time is the fastest ran in the Big 12 and third in the nation. Henderson ran a 21.68 to place second and Brandon Tucker finished fourth with a 22.12.
The Red Raiders had three runners finish in the top eight of the men's 400M. Sophomore Bill Lawhorn ran a 48.10 placing second. Senior Rodney Mims was fourth with a 48.48 and junior Tim Foster finished seventh place with a time of 49.05.
Freshman Jamele Mason was .02 away from a NCAA provisional mark in the 60M hurdles. He finished in second place with a personal-best time of 7.91 and Tucker placed third with an 8.18.
Sandra Iwunze finished second in the women's 60M hurdles with a time of 8.57. Tori Smith was right behind Iwunze in third place with a time of 8.59 and Jamie Simanek finished sixth with an 8.94.
The Lady Raiders started the day with Janell Appelhans competing in the long jump. Her jump of 18'-3.75" placed her fourth in the field. Waylon Randolph finished in second place in the men's field with a jump of 24'3.75".
Sophomore Shannon Jackson placed third in the 800M with a time of 2:15.53
Veronica DiLullo placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 38'-5".
Justin Turner won the men's high jump clearing 6'-8.75". Lady Raider Amanda Dowdy placed third in the high jump with a height of 5'-7.75".
The Red Raider's 4x400M team of Lawhorn, Mason, Brandon Washington and Mims won the race with a time of 3:11.68. The Lady Raiders ran Evans, Clarke, Iwunze and Kelsey Lloyd on the 4x400M winning the race with a time of 3:44.20.
Chuck Zavala finished his first heptathlon in third place with 4,939 points and only nine points away from second place. He ran a 9.40 in the 60M hurdles to score 660 points and cleared a personal-best 13'-7.25 in the pole vault. He ran a personal-best in the 1,000M with a time of 3:02.69.
Tech returns to action next weekend as it hosts the third Texas Tech Invitational.
