
Great Match Goes to Mizzou

LUBBOCK, Texas - Despite one of the best hitting performances of the home season for the Red Raiders, Mizzou got 17 kills from Paola Ampudia and the Tigers beat back the effort to win, 3-0, in Big 12 volleyball action at the United Spirit Arena. With the win, Mizzou keeps its postseason hopes alive and improves to 18-11, 9-8 in Big 12 while Tech still seeks an elusive win either at home or in the Big 12: 2-24, 0-17.
Amanda Dowdy recorded a double-double in the effort with 14 kills (only 4 errors) and 13 digs as the lanky sophomore led her team from all parts of the floor. Junior Barbara Conceicao was very effective in the effort, with 10 kills and two blocks. Freshman libero Tory Vaughan scooped up nine digs in the defensive effort as the Red Raiders out-dug the Tigers, 48-45 in a see-saw battle which featured 21 tie scores, three lead changes and in which 11 points determined the three set match. Set scores were: 25-22, 25-20 and 25-22.
For Tech, Miara Cave pounded nine kills and had two blocks, Hayley Ball added eight kills and Alexxa Roberts stepped in for three kills, an assist and six digs, a career high, as the team hit for a .193 efficiency on the evening (a full 70 points higher than they normally do). Karlyn Meyers, who had one of her best performances distributing the ball, picked up 40 assists, six digs, added a kill and had a pair of blocks.
Tech next travels to Texas A&M for a Sunday, Nov. 22, matchup with the Aggies at 3 p.m.
