COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field program earned three awards from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as Cliff Felkins, Dion Miller and Gil Roberts were honored for their performance during the indoor season.
Felkins has two of the top throwers in the nation competing at the NCAA Indoor Championship meet. Patience Knight won her second-straight Big 12 Indoor Championship in the shot put and currently ranked third in the nation at 56'2"(17.12m). Ozie Okolie placed second at the Big 12 Championships in the weight throw and has the sixth-best throw in the nation. Felkins throwers contributed greatly to the Red Raiders runner up finish in the Big 12 Championship meet.
Miller has coached Roberts to the second fastest-time nationally in the 400 meters (46.08) and to a Big 12 Championship individual title. Hurdler Omo Osaghae has the third fastest 60 meter hurdle time at 7.72 and also won the Big 12 Championship in the 60 meter hurdles. He also helped guide the men's 4x400M relay team to a berth in the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Roberts was named the Mountain Regional Track Male Athlete of the Year. The sophomore won his first Big 12 Championship in the 400M and set a school record doing it. The time of 46.08 is the second-fastest in the nation and has been a key member of the 4x400M relay all year.
