Tech Collects Eight Titles at TCU Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas - The first outdoor track meet for the Texas Tech track team was successful as eight titles were won and five NCAA Regional marks were collected.
Carter threw her second NCAA Regional mark in as many days. She placed second in the women's shot put with a mark of 49'-6.50". Harrison Benjamin won the men's shot put with a throw of 54'-3.75". Tyler Menges was right behind him in second with a mark of 53'-1.75".
Darrell Roddick won the men's triple jump with a NCAA Regional jump of 51'-00".
On Friday Tech had three student-athletes compete in the discus. Two-time All-American D'Andra Carter won the women's side with a NCAA regional mark of 172'-11". On the men's side Brett McDaniel placed third with a throw of 168'-06".
Amanda Alley placed second in the pole vault to future Lady Raider Shade Weygandt. Alley cleared a NCAA regional height of12'-11.50" and Weygandt cleared the same height but on less jumps.
Kelsey Lloyd won the women's high jump with a height of 5'-5". Justin Turner tied for third on the men's side clearing 6'-6.75".
The school-record holder in the 400M hurdles, Iwunze, won the event with a 1:02.38. Lloyd placed fifth with a 1:06.29 and Caroline Mueller finished seventh with a 1:12.45. Mason won the men's 400M time with a 53.18. Zach Plinario ran a 55.14 placing fourth and Tucker crossed the line in sixth with a time of 55.19.
The Lady Raiders had two places in the top four of the 800M. Kearci Jobe ran a 2:14.81 to win the event while Shannon Jackson finished fourth with a time of 2:17.13. Matt Davidson placed fifth on the men's side running a 1:55.86.
Nathan Milles won the men's 1500M running a 4:01.52 and Logan Culotta ran a 4:05.25 to finish sixth. Christian Graham placed second in the 1500M with a time of 4:47.93.
Sandra Iwunze ran a 14.06 to place third in the 100M hurdles. Tori Smith (14.37) and Jamie Simanek (14.46) finished sixth and seventh, respectively. Freshmen Jamele Mason and Brandon Tucker placed second and third in the 110M hurdles, respectively. Mason ran a NCAA Regional time of 14.23 and Tucker crossed the line at 14.57.
All-American Rodney Mims placed second in the 400M with a time of 47.98. Terra Evans finished fourth on the women's side with a 57.38.
Jonisha Boleware ran an 11.88 to place fourth in the women's 100M.
Bill Lawhorn placed fourth in the 200M with a time of 21.43. Boleware ran a 24.37 and finished third in the women's 200M.
Culotta ran the 3000M in a time of 9:02.29 to place second overall.
The Lady Raiders A 4x400M relay squad of Boleware, Evans, Jobe and Iwunze placed third with a time of 3:49.33. The A team of Simanek, Devin Bailey, Jackson and Mueller ran a time of 4:02.66 crossing sixth.
The Red Raiders A squad of Mims, Markus Henderson, Jamaal Butler and Tim Foster ran a 3:11.69 to finish in second place. The group of Lawhorn, Lamont Adams, Julius Walker and Tucker ran the B team and ran a 3:17.52 finishing in fifth.
The Tech men finished third at the meet with 137.50 points and the Lady Raiders scored 116 points for fourth.
