- Despite tonight's win, LCU still leads the all-time series 18-16. The two city teams met for the first time in 16 years this evening as the last matchup resulted in an 8-2 Tech win back on April 13, 1993. Tonight's win gives Tech a two-game win streak against the Chaps.
- In a pregame ceremony, both Texas Tech and LCU retired the No. 27 jersey worn by former Head Coach Larry Hays at both schools. Hays is the all-time winningest head coach at Texas Tech with 814 wins and at LCU with 695. The ceremony featured various dignitaries, former players and coaches and the entire Hays family.
- Texas Tech has now won two-straight and marks it first win streak since the Red Raiders went 4-0 to start the year.
- Junior RHP Nate Karns pitched a career high seven innings tonight and also posted a career-high nine strikeouts. The win is his first since beating Baylor last season on May 18.
- Tonight's crowd of 4,075 marked a season-high and is the largest crowd to attend a game at Dan Law Field since 4,088 turned out against No. 13 Oklahoma back on April 22, 2006.
