LUBBOCK, Texas - For her work out of the ring, Texas Tech senior track and field athlete Patience Knight was named the school's representative for the Big 12's Spring Community of Champions Thursday.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.0 GPA, be involved in at least one community-service project, and must demonstrate leadership and sportsmanship both on and off the field.
Knight is a three-time All-American and school-record holder in the indoor and outdoor shot put. The senior has participated in various volunteer activities such as helping the Junior League make sack lunches for children. She has also spoken to various schools and has read books to children.
Knight will be in action Saturday at the Michael Johnson Classic in Waco, Texas, as Tech will send split teams to the meet and also to Walnut, Calif., for the Mt. SAC Relays.
