Weygandt Hits Auto Qualifying Mark in Pole Vault

LUBBOCK, Texas - For the second day in a row a Texas Tech freshman has been in the spotlight for Texas Tech track and field team as Shade Weygandt broke the school record for the second-straight week and automatically qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Weygandt improved on her school record by clearing 4.15M (13'-7.25") on her first attempt. The bar was raised to the NCAA automatic mark of 4.25M (13'-11.25") and on her second jump cleared the bar. The height is a new personal indoor record and puts her tied for fifth on the NCAA list. Her teammate Amanda Alley placed right behind her clearing 3.85M (12'-7.50").
The Red Raiders 4x400M relay of Markus Henderson, Jamele Mason, Zach Plinario and Latoy Williams added its name to the NCAA list. The squad ran a NCAA Provisional time of 3:08.13 placing second behind South Plains. The women's 4x400M relay of Taylor Evans, Candace Jackson, Trudeann Clarke and Meshawn Graham won the race with a season-best time of 3:41.71.
All-American Omo Osaghae improved on his time from a week ago in the 55M hurdles. He won the race with a NCAA Provisional time of 7.20 which converts to 7.75 in the 60M hurdles. Tech also had Bryce Brown (7.48) and Mason (7.53) finish third and fourth respectively.
The Lady Raiders had two provisional marks set in the mile. Caroline Karunde won the event with a NCAA Provisional time of 4:50.06 and teammate Purity Biwott was right on her heels in second. Biwott ran a NCAA Provisional time of 4:50.12.
The Lady Raiders also placed third, fifth and eighth in the mile. Winrose Karunde ran a 4:56.55 while Lillian Badaru crossed the line in 5:00.45 and Michelle Guzman ran a 5:08.24.
The women's 55M hurdlers had a good showing again. Sandra Iwunze placed second with a 7.98 and Kelsey Lloyd ran a 7.99 to finish third.
Terra Evans ran a time of 7.02 in the 55M to finish in third and Jackson was sixth with a 7.11. On the men's side Rashad Hawk ran a 6.49 for eighth place and Bryce Lamb placed 12th running a 7.50.
Tyler Menges threw 17.03M (55'-10.50") finishing in third place in the men's shot put.
Freshman Boston Spiva cleared 4.90M (16'-00.75") to place second in the men's pole vault.
In the women's hurdles, Iwunze ran a 7.98 to finish in second while Kelsey Lloyd (7.99) and Katie Grimes (8.07) were third and fifth, respectively.
Tech women took three of the top five places in the 800M. Gladys Kispang led the way with a time of 2:12.06 and winning the race. Devin Bailey was second in a 2:15.06 and Shannon Jackson crossed the line in a time of 2:16.23 for fourth. Gilbert Limo ran a 1:52.96 to place third in the men's 800M.
The Red Raiders got a second place from Plinario after he ran a 48.69 and Henderson was right behind him running a 48.78 to finish third. Clarke ran a 55.09 and Evans clocked a 56.05 placing second and third in the 400M.
Kaci Westervelt crossed the line in a time of 10:29.50 in the 3000M to finish fourth while Meagan Willingham (10:56.30) was sixth and Katherine Preibe (11:13.64) was seventh.
